who i am behind the camera
I'm Nathan and I've been behind the lens since 2018, when I was taking photos of flowers on my iPhone with a cheap little macro lens attachment. I've been a photographer since that very moment, and have steadily gained even more interest in the subject over time. Today, the confidence and passion I have for my photography is founded upon the number of years I've spent exploring my interests and gaining experience.
My work is heavily inspired by vintage, filmic feels. I focus on your photos invoking memories and inviting feelings over looking like they belong on a magazine cover (although that isn't a bad outcome either). I want to create a relaxed environment with a lot of quiet direction so you can focus on just being in the moment, maybe even forgetting that a camera's there to capture you
I first got into photography because whenever I went on hikes with my family, my dad would bring his old Sony camera with him to document where we went and capture the natural beauty we'd see. Eventually, when he got a new camera, he gave his old one to me, and I followed in his footsteps by taking landscape photos on all our adventures. I transitioned from being mainly interested in landscape photography to loving the thrill and beauty of capturing people, and here we are today. I love taking portraits, capturing couples, and telling stories through still images.
who i am outside photography
Outside of photography, I grew up in Belmont, California and distinctly remember spending many summers in my childhood hiking and backpacking along the US. When I was eleven years old and my brother was nine, my family even trekked the John Muir Trail (215 miles in about 3 weeks). I still think my dad's crazy for making us do that.
Other little things about me are that I recently became a cat dad to my sweet calico Toki (she’s actually a monster) and I also love drawing whenever I can even though I often go months at a time without even picking up a pencil. Anything artistic or remotely creative is extremely enticing to me, to be honest. I like to try and find the beauty in anything that expresses one's feelings, appreciating both the work and the artist at the same time. Whether that's writing, painting, dance, photography, or even something as small and simple as chalk on the sidewalk. There's always a story behind the artist, and there's always a story that artist is trying to tell.
